Understudies are part of Flock Theatre for the season 2025-2026. It’s a role with both perks and responsibilities, and a way for actors to learn and improve directly from the inside.
Perks as understudy
As an understudy, you get access to a few perks, such as:
- Weekly rehearsal with the company, directed and/or organised by Laura or Gael
- Being part of the life of the company and grow with it
- Option of standing-in for the weekly shows from Flock Theatre: you might be offered stage time in the weekly shows to get some experience on stage later in the season
- Free access to all Flock Theatre shows
Responsibilities as understudy
As an understudy, you also take on a few responsibilities, such as:
- Being available for rehearsals (Wednesdays 16:30-18:30)
- A financial contribution of €150 for the full season, which covers participation in approx. 40 rehearsals and shared costs
- Showing up to the weekly rehearsals, with the mindset and drive to grow and improve
- Caring about Flock’s activities: showing interest in the shows (Thursdays 19:30), in how we make them happen, learning from watching, etc.
Notes on the understudy position
We are genuinely very excited to have understudies, and created this position after the applications were closed to be able to involve more promising people around. This position comes with its share of variable parameters though, and we wanted to lay them out:
- The position is valid for the season 2025-2026, and we are planning a check-in mid-way through the year (January 2026) and at the end of the season (June-July 2026) to discuss what comes next.
- Understudies have access to all the rehearsals with the rest of the ensemble, but might be asked occasionally to step out of a rehearsal or sit out an exercise if the work is specific to one show coming up.
- As much as we aren’t guaranteeing any stage time throughout the season and the only certainty is the rehearsals, the reality is that it is likely to happen: we both want to also see you on stage and offer the possibilities to improve from the stage. We will do our best to create these opportunities.
We truly see this as a great opportunity to grow, for you to know us better and for us to know you better, as well as the chance to see you evolve into your role as an actor. That being said, if there is any moment when you feel like you want to talk to us about your role, you can always do this and do not have to wait until the check-ins!
